Do You Think The World Will End In 2012?

Jan 22, 2012 Solar Flare
Solar Flare CME M8.7
On January 22, 2012 a category 3 (strong) solar flare occurred. If it was reported by the mainstream media, I was unaware of it. A friend told me about it two days later. Scientists say there is nothing to worry about in 2012. How come they never mention Coronal Mass Ejections of this magnitude, by the sun: "in advance"? What type of SPF (sun protection factor) do makers of tanning lotion recommend? 10W-30?
*UPDATE* March 10 * 8.9 Earthquake/Tsunami Japan
*UPDATE* Feb 15 2011 Coronal Mass Ejection
CME
On February 15, 2011 NASA reported a coronal mass ejection. It is the largest in over four years. It is categorized as a Class X solar flare, which is a high category rating. Solar activity of this sort is expected to peak by 2013. Currently there is no way to "predict" coronal mass ejections.
2012
Please listen to the video as you read. Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof ? I would think that "just proof" is sufficient. In the video this guy from Jet Propulsion Laboratory or NASA, says that there is no planet Nibiru. This guy from NASA is going to have some eggnog. He isn't worried. Before 2012 I would bet that astronomers will find a new comet or a new planet or a new impact on Jupiter that they weren't expecting.
It happens all the time.
Planet Nibiru is a pseudo-scientific theory or more aptly a conspiracy theory, mostly ignored. Oddly this guy from NASA thinks its necessary to "debunk" it. But there is a planet Eris that wasn't identified until 2005.
Comets and asteroids
The Shoemaker Levy 9 comet was first observed on March 24, 1993 and it impacted Jupiter in July, 1994. After they first observed the comet and the time that passed before impact was a total of 15 months. They speculated or predicted that it would impact Jupiter, some time after it was first observed. At best, they had 15 months warning! But this guy from NASA isn't worried? They are discovering new planets with huge elliptical orbits that make their orbits around our Sun in 12,000 mile odysseys. They discover or report "near miss" asteroids or new impacts on other planets all the time. New images of what has hit Jupiter lately, do in fact occur. Some asteroids have in fact hit the earth. Some measuring only a few hundred feet in size but created the Barringer Crater Impact site, having made a huge crater. It is believed that major extinction events in the past were caused by meteor impacts. NASA guy isn't worried about Planet Nibiru.
Mayan Long Counts
Why is a guy from NASA even talking about Mayan Long Counts? My doctor never talks about the kind of tires that are best for my truck. Nevertheless this long count period is coming to an end in 2012. Why do I feel like this NASA video is condescendingly descending down a primrose path, with me in tow?
NASA guy says there are no alignments, nothing unusual in 2012. The JPL guy says there will be no alignments or odd occurrences around 2012. I am not sure why he forgets The Transit of Venus that happens in 2012. Its one of the rarest predictable astronomical phenomena arround. I am sure it will have absolutely no effect on our planet, but wasn't even mentioned. Also a solar eclipse in 2012that will be the first central eclipse in the Continental United States of the 21'st century . Not even mentioned. Not that it matters, I guess.
Solar Cycle 24
Solar Cycle 24 in fact did begin in 2008 and does in fact peak by May 2013, roughly 5 months after the December 2012 doomsday advocate's date. Although its speculated that it will have relatively few sunspots this particular cycle, NASA's own discovery of a breach in the Earths magnetic field coupled with solar cycle 24 could -quote: "This could result in stronger geomagnetic storms than we have seen in many years." and "could load the magnetosphere with plasma" ...?
I see why this one wasn't mentioned!
Book of Daniel
Even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
IBM's SEQUOIA is scheduled to go online in 2011. It will be more powerful than the top 500 supercomputers of the world combined! It will be used for nuclear simulations. The very basic components or properties of our reality will be "simulated". Changes in our world are coming 'exponentially faster". Lets have some eggnog! When I was a kid FM radio was still new. I listened to Pink Floyd songs on AM radios. Polaroid instant cameras were "technological advances" Now we are going to have super computers, like no others before, run nuclear simulations.
Personally I'm not worried about some fictional planet named Nibiru colliding with planet Earth, but why is it always some amateur astronomer kid in Australia that is always spotting this stuff in space hurtling towards us and not NASA?
Anyone for eggnog?

Can I put a little whiskey in the eggnog?!! Cheers, great hub.
Pass the eggnog !!!
This hub has interesting points. I really like your observation about kids finding things NASA spends millions hunting.
Very interesting article. I looked up a few links on my own for more information which I have shared with you here: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~izapa/M-32.pdf
A very good hub on the year 2012. Your hub has presented very interesting points. I will continue to follow your hubpages.
I'm on the fence about 2012. It seems logical that, eventually, something catastrophic is going to happen. On the other hand, people have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of the world. Just ten short years ago airplanes were going to drop from the sky and the the world was going to be sent into chaos.
Ultimately, God, or the higher power that governs the universe, will determine what happens.
Nibiru and 2012 prediction I believe needs to be thought of
with a open mind. The Y2K hype was a totally ridiculous prediction.
The belief planes would fall out of the sky on the assumption the computer would not turn over to 2000
was idiotic, all one had to do was change the computer clock to 2000 to see the results years before the so called impending disasters, ridiculous.
2012 is totally different, one might say "it's written in stone"many cultures miles and years apart all come up with 2012.all other predictions were mostly ,cults, preachers who believed god told them or just plain old nut cases.
I'm on the fence but,I believe 2012 is a little more,
something that can't be simply dismissed, either way
if it is to be "the end" there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.
Peace

I really enjoyed learning what you shared here, and you raise some great points and questions. You shared some things I have never even heard of before now, and glad you put links in so I could educate myself. Great hub, and one that makes me think!
