Top 10 Kitchen Utensils
Every kitchen should have knives. They should be of good quality and sharp. If you have ever peeled potatoes with a dull knife, you know that a good knife is a must have. Kitchens should have a good paring knife. They're usually small and very sharp.
Other knives should include: Serrated knives of various lengths(they have a saw-like blade), and an all purpose chef knife, which is a largest type of kitchen knife I personally use. These types I can get by on . I don't own a cleaver I am not a butcher, and I use the larger chef knives and longer bladed serrated knives for cutting cheddar etc.
The next utensil in my list is measuring cups.
I have individual cups of various measurements. I have a 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup and a larger 2 cup. I am not sure what the smaller ones are made of I think they are copper or tin or gold colored aluminum, and the larger one is plastic. The larger one has smaller measurements and often winds up as a mixing bowl for an egg or two.
If you are going to do some cooking you will need lots of bowls.
I have plastic ones and metal ones. They range in sizes from quarts to gallon. I like the plastic ones the best. They seem the easiest to work with and clean easier in my opinion.
Spatulas are a must have at number four on the list.
Whether to flip pancakes or burgers or the kind I use to mix cake batter, no kitchen is complete without them. I have about 3 of them, some are metal and some are plastic.
The next kitchen utensil on my list would be the colander.
These kitchenware items come in real handy for me. I can use them for draining spaghetti. I use them to rinse fruits and vegetables. I use them when I am peeling various foods, like potatoes. I like being able to use them as a bowl to hold something then instantly can use them to rinse something.
Number six on my top ten kitchen utensils is mixers.
I got to have one. I usually keep a good hand mixer around. They make life in the kitchen much easier. Mixing cake batter, or whipping mashed potatoes. I have a couple of different beaters or blades for them. I sometimes use both beaters but usually just have one in. I also use them by themselves for a whisk at times.
Number seven and number eight on my kitchen utensil list is tongs and a good peeler.
Tongs I use for lots of things, I can use them for arranging hot items or can use them for just about anything if I need more dexterity than a spatula can provide. from tossing salad to pulling a steaming hot potato out of boiling water they are a definite must have.
Kitchen peelers are a definite must. From peeling potatoes to peeling the skin or rinds off of just about everything. They will save your hands. I like to use them to clean carrot sticks and there's got to be 101 things you can do with them.
My ninth item is the can opener.
I have a great electric can opener. I'm not sure if all can openers are like mine but its the exact right size to open a gallon can of peaches.I push the can next to it, push the cutting edge down and turn it on . They're the exact right height. I like buying a gallon size of peaches because they seem to be better quality and after I have had a few servings I usually make a cobbler after a few days with whats left. I also keep a few hand crank can openers but avoid them at all cost. They take work!
The last item on my list is spoons and ladles.
I probably have every size and shape under the sun. From small metal ones to large plastic ones. I have 3 or 4 of various sized wooden ones as well.
These are all just the basics that I feel every kitchen should have at the very least!

Great hub Phoenix. Regarding good knives... I love a good set of knives. I like them sharp and to use them what they are meant for. Everything cuts more easily, and no accidents, or food that looks mauled.. Thanks
