Is There A Difference Between Democrats And Republicans?

Democrat Or Republican

Recently I read an article, or really it was more like a website, that compared the policies and actions of the current democratic President of The United States and the previous republican President of The United States.

Without going into much detail, I found the argument or conclusion, that was made, to be compelling. The argument or conclusion seem to be, that although they came from completely different parties, they seem to wind up doing basically the same things. Nothing really changed.

I have a feeling that each ardent member of each respective party is going to fervently deny that they resemble each other in any way. Philosophically, each party seems to be diametrically opposed in many ways, at the core or base level. However, once elected, to these top levels, the spending habits of the different elected officials at the Presidential level, oftentimes seem to be the exact same.

Without taking sides, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this too. To me, this choice, each Presidential election year of 'either or" seems to get the same results, when it comes to what they actually spend the money on.

Philosophically speaking, there seems to be a pretty big difference between Democrats and Republicans. Yet, when they get elected President, they seem to spend the money exactly the same, in my opinion.

Lately, it seems the en vogue thing to do is for a political party to take a candidate who seems to have the philosophy and even voting record of one party, but run them as another party.

Perhaps, I am wrong? Perhaps it's just coincidence? Is it because a candidate has to appeal to the largest majority to appease the most to actually get elected? Am I missing something here?

Well... Since you ask for my thoughts on the difference in Democrats and Republicans. I would say yes, policy and intent as percieved by the people who voted them in office is one difference The Republicans have their policies and their intent and the Democrats also have theirs, that basic. The people must choose between two different sets of policies and intent that are so unalike. The Lawmaker are simular and like. Another difference is we have a Black President "Non-racecard" and that has changed some of the rules.

Interesting read; I see the only differences between them as being party affiliation! Their willingness to be financially rewarded by lobbyists and their self-serving attitudes are synonymous.

Yes, there is a huge difference. One important one is the Dems love for big government. The Reps. want small government which, in my view, is a very good thing. The list goes on and on and on and on.

Yes I agree that there is a difference. The dems will work for the everyday citizen. They will fight to keep regulations in tact for food safety, work and health safety, clean air and water and ect. The republicans will fight to eliminate those same regulations that keeps Americans safe in order for the corporations to make even more of an obscene amount of money.

No, there is no difference. Each individual/party claims different values and ideals. But once elected they all twist around what they say and lie to the American People. They all take contributions (I would call them bribes) from large corporations who want things and are paying for them to be addressed to Congress/Senate. If you want find ONE individual who hasn't let their position go to their head. I would be completely shocked to hear any difference.

I don't know for sure, but there seems to be a fair difference in their overall philosophy of things. They tend to get a lot of the same things done over time though, so it does make one wonder. I think the democrats have really changed over the years, not for the better. The Republicans have changed a lot too. Not liking a lot of what I see from either side to be honest. Things need a real change and soon.

Thank you for publishing this thought-provoking Hub.

I think there is a vast difference between the two parties as far as what they want to do. Of course, neither party cannot just do everything they want to do—which is by design in our political system. So things do not change nearly as much as either side would want them to change. This leads some to conclude that nothing changes. But that is not true.

If they had their way, the Democrats would want each person to be dependent upon the government for everything—for their very lives really. They are for cultural decadence (in the name of individual expression) and moral anarchy (in the name of moral relativism). I see them made up of an elite at the top, who fancy themselves those who ought to tell everybody else what to think, say, and do. And those at the bottom who just want to survive without having to work. Of course, there is a large contigent of Marxists and Atheists (conjoined philosophies). I think the left is anti-Christ, anti-Capitalist, anti-American, anti-Western Civilization.

Those who are conservative are generally those who believe in God. I don't mean some Pantheist spooky spirit; I mean the God of the Holy Bible. These are people who want the dignity, liberty, and freedom to think for themselves, sustain themselves, and govern themselves. They work and like to work. They love America and all it stands for (or at least used to stand for). They see themeslves as fighting against the forces of Satan—the New Left.

The list goes on and on and on and on.One person stated above, but in truth our 15 trillion dollar debt. is shared by both parties. If you follow both parties you will see that they both have huge ideas on how to spend "your" money. The few that really and I mean really want a small government are called extremist they believe that the power should not be so localized if we actual followed or Constitution individual states would have the true power. Why are we so BLIND ?

Republicans: small federal government with power as close to the governed as possible.

Democrats: a parental government using the federal authority to legislate for the good of the individual.

Tea Party: candidates who go to Washington, DC and do what they promised they would do for smaller, less authoritarian government.

Independents: voters and their representatives who find they have reservations about the motives and stances of all formal party affiliations and vote independent of party.
