Blu-Ray Disc Player for Christmas

By

Blu-Ray

Well its almost that time of year again. No, not Christmas time. Its upgrade time again, from DVD to Blu-Ray.

What is Blu-Ray?

Blu-Ray is the replacement of DVD players and discs. By using a laser with a shorter wavelength than the red lasers of DVD's, they are using a blue or violet laser that can store more than five times more information on a disc.

At first there was competition between high defintion DVD and the future Blu-Ray's, but Sony's success in using the Blu-Ray technology in its PlayStation 3 was probably the deciding factor in the industry.

The Blu-Ray player and discs have been around for a few years, but this year it looks like the price of the player and the availability and price of the discs of HD movies and box set movies are all fairly reasonable for Christmas gifts -hint-hint. They also seem to have developed new scratch resistant capabilities to the discs themselves, so that is a bonus.

The quality of picture you get with these new Blu-Ray players and discs are intense and almost surreal. The images can seem more real, than real. So much clarity, depth, and color its unbelievable. Lately, since I have been getting older and although my vision has declined, I was able to read trademarks of items in the movie I was watching. I was able to count the gems in a ring an actress was wearing. Scary clarity!

So if you know of any " friend, loved one or favorite hubpage writer" that you would like to give a Christmas gift to, but can't think of the right gift- Think "Blu- Ray"!

Do you think that regular dvds will become obsolete because of them?

Will the Blue Ray players play a regular DVD?...I guess the answer to this would also answer my first question.

The Players can play DVD as far as I know.

The evolution of technology is so interesting to observe. The fitting of more information into smaller places is amazing. Great hub, great gift idea.
