Best Def Leppard Songs

Def Leppard is one of the world's most successful rock bands. They were just teenagers when they first started out, but they went on to sell over one hundred million records worldwide. Two of their albums (I bought both) Hysteria and Pyromania sold over ten million copies each, making them what is called diamond certified. You can visit Def Leppard's official site here.

The name Def Leppard was created by Joe Elliot, the singer of Def Leppard apparently when he was in school, dreaming of being a rock star. It is said to be derived somewhat from the band Led Zeppelin, at least that's what I always believed. When I first started listening to Def Leppard, my first thought was that they could be as successful as Led Zeppelin. Very few bands have ever achieved this kind of commercial success and sold that many albums and Def Leppard joins the ranks of bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Van Halen.

Which Def Leppard songs are the best is just subjective opinion. I looked at which Def Leppard videos were getting the most views on a popular video site and then added a few of my personal favorite Def Leppard songs and came up with a short list of great Def Leppard songs. Def Leppard is considered new wave British metal, since they are originally from Britain but I always considered them a rock and roll hair band. Some will call them glam rock or metal even, but I thought they were just good, clean rock and roll. Here are some of what I consider to be just a few of Def Leppard's most popular songs.

Pour Some Sugar On Me
Hysteria is Def Leppard's fourth album from 1987 and is the album that had their song called Pour Some Sugar On Me. Pour Some Sugar On Me was a very popular and hugely successful song. It is a very straightforward rock and roll song with fun lyrics.

..I'm hot, sticky sweet from my head to my feet...

If you want to have some fun and listen to a cool, upbeat rock song then Pour Some Sugar on Me is a great song to play. I have noticed that many people, no matter what style of music they prefer will like the song Pour Some Sugar On Me.

Bringin' On the Heartbreak
Bringin' On the Heartbreak is a song originally recorded and released on their 1981 album called High 'n' Dry. Bringin' On the Heartbreak is one of my personal favorite Def Leppard songs of all time.

...you're such a secret, misty eyed and shady...lady, how you hold the key...

Bringin' On the Heartbreak has a haunting mournful tone to it, with meaningful lyrics. I always liked it because it sounded really great on the radio or car stereo speakers and I listened to it endlessly.

Def Leppard's - Foolin
Foolin is a 1983 song from their album titled Pyromania. Foolin starts out really smooth and melodic and then builds into more of a harder rock song. The lyrics and tone of Foolin are similar in style to Bringin' On the Heartbreak, in my opinion. Foolin is what I would consider classic Def Leppard.

...on and on we rode the storm...the flame has died and the fire has gone...

Def Leppard's - Animal
Animal is a song from their album called Hysteria which was released in 1987. I tend to jump back and forth from album to album because I am judging the song's popularity on how many views their videos got online and other factors. I like the vocals on this song a lot. Some say that the lyrics in Animal, reference one of Neil Young's albums called Rust Never Sleeps.

..I'm running with the wind, a shadow in the dust and like the driving rain, yeah, like the restless rust, I never sleep...

Love Bites

Love Bites is from Def Leppard's album Hysteria, as well. Love Bites was a number one single on Billboard's Hot 100's and was very popular on the radio. I like Love Bites' catchy tune and excellent and memorable lyrics.

...when you make love, do you look in the mirror...

Hysteria
Hysteria is a song from from their 1987 album of the same name. Once again I really like the vocals on this song. Hysteria is also a personal favorite Def Leppard song of mine.

Photograph
Photograph is a song from their album called Pyromania which was released in 1983. The Def Leppard song Photograph sounds like classic Def Leppard to me personally.

...I'm outta luck, outta love...gotta photograph, picture of...

Besides Photograph and a few that I have already mentioned, there was Rock of Ages, Too Late for Love, Rock Rock Till You Drop, Die Hard the Hunter on their early Pyromania album that makes me think of them being classic Def Leppard songs. Well, I hope you have enjoyed revisiting some of my favorite Def Leppard songs!

Def Leppard is a great band. I voted for Foolin, and most of my favorites would come from On Through the Night, High and Dry and Pyromania. They definately became a much more polished band after Pyromania. Early Def Lep is way grittier, and more in the spirit of NWOBHM.

Nice write-up of a classic band!

Gotta be "Animal". Any band with a one-armed drummer is awesome in my book.

Oh, I love Def Leppard! Takes me back, and I love the songs just as much today! I honestly don't know what to vote for in regards to favorite song, but Pour some sugar on me is up there, Hysteria (gets me in the heart!), and Animal all maybe tie? If any one of those songs you listed comes on the radio though, I am a happy camper!

Thanks for sharing, how fun! Up, useful, awesome and interesting.

Awesome hub, I agree with Oceansnsunsets. They had too many songs that I love and it took me a bit to settle on Photograph as my favorite in your poll. I was in several different choral groups in high school and we would sing some of these songs before and after class and the teacher would join in sometimes. Voted up and awesome!
