Are Banks Open On Presidents Day?
62
Each year, I will inevitably hear someone inquire if the banks are going to be open on Presidents Day. Presidents Day is also the date when George Washington's birthday is celebrated and both take place on the third Monday, of each February.
Many businesses or retail stores choose Presidents Day to have many of their sales. The television sets and radios will be buzzing with all sorts of sales, on anything and everything, especially it would seem, autos. Which is good news, that everything will be on sale on Presidents Day. Unfortunately, the bad news is that Presidents Day is a State Holiday (in many States) and a Federal Holiday.
Which means more than likely your bank will be closed on Presidents Day.
George Washington, one of the United State's greatest Presidents was born on February 22, 1732, in Virginia. Congress chose to make George Washington's birthday a Federal Holiday around 1880. It would seem that politics were pretty much the same back then and it was the year 1885, until it was actually implemented. In 1968, Congress passed the Monday Holidays Act, which mandated that federal holidays would now be observed on Mondays, so that government employees could get an extra long weekend. It took them five years to make George (The Father Of Our Country) Washington's birthday a Federal Holiday, so they could probably use a rest.
Even though, more than likely your bank will not be open on Presidents Day, you can still probably use drop offs and ATM's. Most large banks have online services where you can check your bank account from the internet. You might also consider opening an online payment-banking service like PayPal, so that you can shop and pay online.

LOL exactly, every year and every year I forget! Voted up, marked useful and interesting.
Many Chase branches are open on the 20th. I've seen signs indicating such on recent visits.
