Alien Skull Found
Every so often you will hear about an alien skull being found somewhere. Usually you will hear about it or see it on the cover of some publication you see at the supermarket check-out line. Sometimes you will discover some "alien skull found" story on the internet. One such, very well known story, is called "starchild".
Very often these types of sensationalized stories will originate from Central or South American countries and wind up on the cover of a tabloid, of sorts.
These purported alien skulls found, are usually skeletal remains that would appear much different than normal human remains. Oftentimes they are the skeletal remains of children, which in my opinion opens the door for a conclusion of them being alien. They usually have a very large skull, but they are on a small skeletal frame or body. This is the typical descriptions of aliens that we find on TV and in the movies: large alien heads on small alien bodies.
These "alien skull found" stories are just sensationalism of a real medical condition called hydrocephalus, in my opinion. Our brains are naturally surrounded by what is called: cerebrospinal fluid. Hydrocephalus is a medical condition where cerebrospinal fluid continuously builds up in the skull surrounding the brain. Because a child's skull is still in development at those early stages, the bones in the skull itself have yet to fuse, so when a child suffers from hydrocephalus, the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid causes the skull to become unusually enlarged.
Today hydrocephalus is treated using what is called cerebral shunts, which basically drain the excess accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain. But centuries ago and left untreated, hydrocephalus could be fatal for children. A real medical condition such as hydrocephalus logically explains these types of skeletal remains being found e.g. large skulls on small childlike frames, is more indicative of a child that succumbed to hydrocephalus than an alien skull or some hybrid of human and alien beings.
Hydrocephalus is a real and serious medical affliction. The month of September is the official or national awareness month in the United States for hydrocephalus. Please consider donating the same amount of the price of a tabloid, with a sensationalized story, to help those that suffer from hydrocephalus.

Shhhhhhh! Dont tell the producers on Unsolved Mysteries!! They prefer the preposterous to the plausible. I prefer this to the current fare of pseudo-scientific speculation prevalent in the pulp media today. Thanks!
Thanks for a worthwhile contribution. It would have been even better if you referred to some medical literature confirming your hypothesis, but you are probably correct.
Good title! Catchy!
The point is well taken about donating to the cause and I hope many will follow your request.
There were however reportedly, skulls found in Africa. These too seemed to be bigger in ratio, to their bodies. These ones though, again reportedly, had no eyes, ears or mouths. I do not think that there is any medical condition to explain this, especially when several of the skulls were found together. Thanks for an interesting insight into what maybe.
Excellent hub and good explanation too. I don't know if you've read my 'My Alien Experience' hub but I have been looking for similar explanations, the only thing I could find was Progeria. Hydrocephalus doesn't quite seem to explain it either though.
Excellent hub and a good information.
I think to most people it should be obvious that the cause of the change in shape would be due to hydrochephalus. But there are also cultures where the head is/was wrapped in tight swaddling as part of the fashion. These could change the shape of the skull into quite a grotesque shape after only a few years of the head being 'bandaged' like this.
This is the best lead in to a charity introduction I have heard. Your theory makes a lot of sense too. It seems to me any skull suspected of alien origin could be DNA tested to prove it one way or the other. But, that wouldn't sell tabloids. I was not familiar with this particular condition. Thank you for the education.
Wonderful way to get a very important point across. Voted up, marked useful and interesting.
