If you could have your choice of amazing wealth, or know all the secrets of the universe?

Say for instance you found incredibly large amounts of diamonds on your property worth billions and billions or you could know the secrets of the universe what would you choose?

I would like to know all the secrets of the universe.  Not only could I use that knowledge to unlock the key to happiness, wealth, and well-being, I could use it illicit change in social climate of the world.  No more war, cancer, racism, etc.  Just imagine.

Interesting proposition, knowing full well that I could easily take the amazing wisdom and fulfill a life long dream of writing, one would inevitably become very wealthy by trade.  Nice question.

I'd have to say that knowing all of the secrets of the universe would easily make me much wealthier than diamonds can...

I would love to know all the secrets of the universe. Having such enormous knowledge can help me find real happiness which wealth cannot guarantee. The secrets of the universe can even help me find cures to diseases which are incurable by science, wealth can easily be acquired with so much knowledge and wisdom. Very nice question you have... it made me think. smile

Knowing where Im coming from where not having money is an issue in life, i would have to say wealth. I would make me happy of course because I can buy anything i want.

I  would NOT want to know all of the secrets of the universe. If I did there would be no more wonder, no more surprise, no more exploration, no more mystery.
There would be no more delight in discovery, no reason to learn. No challenge, no hope for more, no aspiration, no inspiration, no imagination of further possibilities.,,, No reason to improve or invent.

The diamond mine could open the possibilities for all of those.

Honestly, I would much rather have the diamonds worth billions and billions. If you invest billions of dollars, you will be set for life, and so will your lineage. If you gain the knowledge of the universe, you would still theoretically have to work for your money, and like others said before me, there would be no more mystery and the universe would lose its wonder.

All great and interesting and thoughtful responses!

I tend to agree with Rochelle Frank, on taking away the mystery and discovery, but also like the responses of being much wealthier in many way to know those secrets!

Finding the billions worth of diamonds is merely a subset of the wealth that would be provided from knowing the secrets of the universe.

So easily the choice is secrets of the universe.
    Not even a close call.

Wisdom trumps wealth every single time.  Thanks for the question-as I was already thinking about publishing a hub about King Solomon.

To be honest, I would not want either. If I knew all the secrets of the universe, I would have to be God and that is one responsibility I never want to carry! Adam & Eve chose to have that and look where it got them--the rest of us have had to pay for that choice ever since.
I also would not want billions and billions of dollars because life would become far too complicated. How would I know who loved me for who I am or just wanted something from me? How could I ever live a simple life and have any peace with people clamoring for my donations and help? While it would be nice to help people, it might create an unhealthy dependence upon me that I could never maintain. Money does not buy happiness as people with money will tell you. Money does not buy security--in fact, the world becomes less safe when people know that you have much and want it for themselves. Money can not buy love or friendship--too much money clouds the minds/hearts of people and they see you for what you have not for what you're worth as a person.
So, while you gave us two choices, I will have to choose neither.

Well, to know all the secrets of the universe would be nice, but that would be almost being "God", and if I had amazing wealth, I could help so many people I love, and still seek out wisdom on my own.  So with those thoughts in mind, I may choose the wealth, which surprises me!  Seeking wisdom is something I hope to be doing all along, no matter how poor or wealthy I ever am.

Well if I had knowledge of all the secrets of the universe, I could help a lot of people.   I'd have the answers that everybody wants/needs.   The only problem is I could just imagine becoming depressed having nothing new to figure out or learn.   I'm not sure how enjoyable life would be if you knew practically everything.   In the movies, people that seek after an infinite knowledge never end up well (that settles it, right?).   If I had amazing wealth, I'd still  be able to help a lot of people.   I'd also still have tons of exciting things to learn and discover, and I can't imagine an amazing wealth being nearly as like to result in some kind of meltdown as ultimate knowledge would.   I guess I'd take the wealth.

If you knew all the secrets of the universe, you could figure out a way to have amazming wealth. But I think there's a point where you wouldn't want to know everything. On the other hand, amazing wealth would allow you to do great good and have peace of mind.

I would choose to know all the secrets of the universe, which, if they were truly all the secrets of the universe, would present enormous opportunities for an enterprizing soul who might contact the patent office and patent anti-gravity, the secrets of immortality, perpetual energy, and cures for all the world's diseases. That way you get the best of both.

I think we might conclude that knowing all the secrets of the universe could result in one gaining an amazing wealth in life.  Just the things you could accomplish and invent would more than secure your financial position in life.  Thus, there is but one choice. WB
